Czech communist art


Communist art from the Czech Republic

Here I present some images of communist art I collected in the Czech Republic during 2002. The collection includes a number of photographs of posters displayed at the Museum of Communism in Prague as well as photos of sculptures from around Prague and Moravia. I was given verbal permission to reproduce the museum images, and although I don't recommend taking a Czech at their word, I can't imagine the KSC mind much.

I have attempted to translate some of the Czech text on the posters, but my Czech is crap. If anyone would care to correct or expand on my translations, feel free to use the COMMENTS box. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on this subject. Some images are also available at slightly higher resolution if you email me (boldra). For similar pictures, search google for social realism, commnist posters or related sites. Also, the Tate Modern gallery in London sometimes has their collection of communist-era posters on display.
