Q: so have you tried the beer yet? A: Are you kidding?? Going to Germany and not trying the beer is like going to Egypt and not seeing the pyramids. Going to Germany and not trying the beer is like going to Austria and not skiing. Going to Germay and not trying the beer is like going to France. Q: Hows the language barrier? A: My German is rapidlz improving, but Im still having problems with these wierdo keyboards. I had a little trouble when I turned up at the local beergarten - but I managed to interrogate a German to find out how to ask for a LARGE beer. A couple of texan girls then sent me off to an irish pub, where my karaoke rendition of Queens "Crazy little thing called love" hit a note with a lovely lass from Belfast. I cant mention her name because the KGB are after her. We had dinner at a fashionable (but lousy) restaurant in the students quarter then went for a twilight walk in the (huge) "englisher garten" and saw some fireflies. Awww. Q: Done any drawing? A: Yes, the weathers been perfect for it. I sat in the shade opposite one of the old chruches and did a sketch - after a while an American came up and asked in terrible German if he could buy it. I replied in worse english that he could have it for 200Marks (about $AU200). He bargained me down to 120. Fool! Q: So the weathers been good? A: Thats a rhetorical question, isnt it? Its been hot. There was no air conditioning and the window didnt open properly at the first hotel I was staying at (in the photocopying quarter), and in my present hotel (in the tourist quarter just east of the two big tourist quarters by the river), if I open the window it takes about 30 seconds for a pidgeon to fly in. Luckily for the pidgeon, German meals are very filling. |
